Captian Sir Richard Francis Burton (1821-1890)
Burton was a famous / infamous Victorian Maverick, adventurer, spy, explorer, translator of the Kama Sutra and 1001 Arabian Nights. And much more!
Entrance to the Museum is £8 and by appointment only, at an agreed time, including in the evening.
28 exhibits, including some of Burton's own artefacts, are weaved together with a soundtrack of over 30 voices that lead you through a truly astonishing life and will leave you thinking why isn't he more famous.
The Museum is located in a private residence in central St Ives, Cornwall UK, open all year and is modeled on Burton's smoking room in Trieste, and the wonderful atmosphere is further enhanced at night by Moroccan lanterns. Complimentary Moroccan mint tea is also served during your visit which lasts around 1 hour. Plus a chance to discuss Burton further with the Museum's creator, Shanty Baba.
Please note that the Museum is not suitable for children and limited to groups of 4 people.
